A Cincinnati mob wrecks James G. Birney's abolition newspaper, The Philanthropist. Birney was a presidential candidate in 1840 who strongly opposed slavery, and had debated thoroughly against it in his lifetime...which led to his downfall.


1937
Actor, comedian, entertainer , author Dr. William Henry "Bill" Cosby, noted for the "Bill Cosby Show", "Fat Albert", "Uptown Saturday Night", books- "Fatherhood", "Childhood", and "Kids Say the Darnedest Things", is born in Germantown, PA.

1949
Frederick M. Jones patents a cooling system for food transportation vehicles.
