What to keep in your travel daypack

what to keep in travel daypack

What you carry in your daypack can make or break your day of travel.

Meaning, if think ahead about what you will need, you can be prepared for the most predictable situations.

Depending on certain variables - weather and climate, activities and length of time you’ll be away - you can always have on hand certain staples in your travel day bag.

Here’s a simple packing list of what I keep in my day pack, and take note - it all fits into this small cross-body purse!

Brush and hair tie
I have a foldable brush that also has a mirror. This little combo will ensure that I can be presentable in a pinch.

Pen
We rarely use them these days, so when you need a pen, it’s always a hunt to get your hands on one. Just keep a small one in your bag so when it’s time to sign immigration forms or receipts, you’ll look like the smart one of the group.

Perfume
A small tube of perfume, refresher or deodorant spray has come in handy on days that have turned out to be more sweaty and longer than expected.

Gum
Gum is handy for popping your ears on the airplane, freshening your breath and staving off hunger when you can’t eat immediately.

Bandaids
This is one of those things that you never knew you needed until you actually need it! I always keep a small bunch in my pouch for that unexpected clumsy ouch.

Eye drops
When I fly for a long time, my eyes and contact lenses dry out. So, it’s handy to reach in my bag and give my eyes some relief.

Lotion
Travel will dry out your skin, and nothing is worse than the feeling of dry hands, feet and itchy skin. It’s easy to keep a small bottle of lotion, as likely your hotel will provide you with one for the taking.

Lip balm
In addition to lotion, take care of your lips with easy access to lip balm. I particularly love a lip balm/lip gloss combo.

Wet wipes
Whether you need to clean your hands from some goop, wipe down your tray table on the airplane or take care of your bum in outdoor bathroom situation, a simple pack of wet wipes will always seem to save the day.

Sunblock
It’s easy to keep a small bottle on hand, so you can apply and reapply should you find yourself outside more than expected.

External battery
These days, we rely heavily on our phones- for maps, wifi calls, and the camera. Toss one of these battery packs in your bag, and don’t forget the connector.

Bug spray
I’m prime prey to mosquitos and such. So, I always have a small bottle in case I find myself swatting away at those pesky pests.

Snacks and water
I have a reputation for always having snacks, too. My experience as a traveler is that you can plan for meal stops, but sometimes it doesn’t always work out that way. So, I keep a couple of granola bars, nuts and candy. I also grab some fruit like bananas, apples and oranges.

I am also really conscious to stay hydrated.
In the past, I’d consciously not drink a lot of water while traveling as to avoid as many bathroom stops. But, that isn’t a good strategy. Dehydrating myself would lead to headaches and also risk passing out - which changes the entire experience from pleasurable to painful.

Now, I always have water on hand. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with sparkling water. In an effort to avoid drinking soda, flavored sparkling water has given me my fix. All the fizz and without the sugar! I’ve been reaching for DASANI® Sparkling which has so many tasty flavors. You can load up on your stash from Kroger.

I tend to favor the Berry flavors. But, no matter what your preference is, DASANI® Sparkling offers 14 different naturally flavored drinks. I consume them guilt free as there are zero calories. There are no artificial flavors, which means, no added juice! They have a refreshing taste that is perfect to drink by itself or to mix it to make a cocktail or mocktail.
