If you know that you are going to be traveling to Latin America, and want to make the most out of your budget, then here's some handy tips to help stretch your dollar.

Take the Chicken Bus
If you have a long journey ahead of you, then it can be tempting to pay a little extra to have a bit of a more relaxing ride. This is understandable, but if you choose to travel on the local buses then you’ll soon see that you can save a huge amount of money. Sometimes you may end up paying ten times more for a shuttle when compared to local transport, so don’t always try and avoid them.

Skip the Guided Tours
There are places that you can only visit with an organized tour or even a group. On the flip side, there are tours that will cost you a small fortune, that you can easily do on your own. If you want to make the most out of your adventure, then you need to make sure that you do your research beforehand. This will help you to make the best decisions and sometimes it will also help you to get away from the crowds.

Local Restaurants
Sure, there may be huge restaurants that look as though they are the ideal choice, but sometimes you may find that you end up paying way more for them. This is the last thing that you need when you are trying to travel on a budget, but there are things that you can do to try and curb your expense. For example, you can easily take advantage of a “menu del dia”. When you do, you can enjoy a two or even a three-course meal for a very affordable price. You will be able to choose from soups, salads, pasta, meat or even fish.

Opt for a Hostel
It goes without saying that if you are on a budget, you should always try and stay in hostels. These are ideal if you want to save money, and they can also help you extend the length of your trip.

Plan your Flights
The more you plan, the more you’ll be able to save. As soon as you know when you want to go, you should start planning your next vacations in South America! This will make a huge difference to your budget and it will also make it easier for you to stretch your vacation even further. You may even be able to book an extra few days too.
