Sinful fun at the Marquee Hotel in New Orleans

A UNIQUE NEW ORLEANS HOTEL

Whether you call it the “Big Easy” or “Crescent City”, New Orleans has a reputation as a place that you know you will party, eat well, and even act a little naughty. So, when I was invited to the grand opening of The Marquee Hotel in the Central Business District, it was a no brainer to accept.

WHY THIS PLACE IS SPECIAL

You’re the star of the show as soon as you walk in the lobby. The theme is an ode to Storyville- the time in New Orleans history (from 1897-1917) when there was a red light district. So, from the time you walk through the doors to check in, your experience begins. The narrator for all of the experiences is the character Story Val - a play on the word Storyville. And using the mobile app, AR (augmented reality) moments are embedded in photos and texts throughout the hotel. The cool feature teaches guests about the rich traditions of theatre, the people who may be lived, all wrapped in a vaudeville is the theme.

Here’s the nuts and bolts:

THE PROPERTY

The innovative art and decor of this unique New Orleans hotel will spark the playful side of you, whether you’re there for business or vacation. It’s a Bluegreen Vacations resort, which means most of the occupants will be using their timeshare points. But, through the Marquee’s partnership with Choice Hotels, non-members can also book individual stays at a typical hotel rate.

THE ROOMS

The brand new suites have the comforts of an apartment - full kitchen, washer/dryer, even walk-in closet. The modern decor of the furniture is detailed following the vaudeville theme, including an authentic Fender guitar in each room, which guests are free to use.

THE FOOD

You’re on your own here, kids. The in-town digs do not have a restaurant on site. So, you’ll have to venture out to grab your meals. But, it’s New Orleans, a place known for its cuisine, so you were probably going to do that anyway. But, if you had a longer stay at this unique New Orleans hotel, you could grab some groceries and stock up your fridge.

THE AMENITIES

There’s a cool outdoor space with wood tables and swings for seats. A small 3-foot rooftop pool - but honestly, the actual rooftop is more of the appeal. It offers a panoramic 360-degree view of New Orleans. And for BGV members, there’s a speakeasy secret door to the member’s lounge.
