Fashion: Being a Naturalista in the Fashion World!

American Eagle, Steve Madden

I have been wanting to write this article for a while, this is something that has been on my mind for the past few years. I am a licensed Cosmetologist and have been for 24 years, and I have notice a disturbing trend in the way women are grooming themselves after going au naturale. Attention ladies: just because you decided to go natural does not mean you have to give up on styling and combing your hair. The Pom Pom is cute but not for every day or every occasion and please throw away the headbands! Natural hair must be trimmed and combed regularly. Have you seen ladies who went natural and their hair is the same length 5 years later? Its because they don't take care of it like they once did when it was relaxed. Don't just give up!

My dear friend and fashion guru, Donielle Polk Spears, is the epitome of keeping it stylish  and knowing what hairstyle goes with the right outfit! Remember fashion is from "head to toe"!! Here are a few of her different looks and ideas of how to change your natural styles for different occasions.

Sunday Church flo! I love the up-do with this collared dress.

Forever 21,  Michael Kors

Below, Donielle is rocking her natural hair down. You can achieve this look by double strand twisting your hair

Be Be, Charlotte Russe, Express

Below, blow-out and curled. It's okay to go straight sometimes! There is no natural hair police whose going to arrest you!! Look how long and healthy it is! Donielle understands the importance of hair care.

Below, this is an easy style to do at home. Just take sections two-strand twist them, and them pin up using bobby pins. This hair do can be worn with a dress or casual outfit.

Hats! Hats! Hat! Of course hats are my favorite fashion accessory! Don't be afraid to wear a stylist hat, especially if you haven't had the time to style your hair.
Christian Louboutins, Be Be

So ladies, remember the rules of going natural and fashion! Comb, trim, style, don't give up, and dress to impress! Natural does not mean glasses, no make-up, wood earrings, jeans , and the afro t-shirts for life!!!
I've said my peace! Do you agree? Let me know!

  2. I totally agree! She looks beautiful and well put together. She really showing the versatility thay natural hair has. Also nothing wrong with a bad hair day now and then natural or relaxed. I was just raised to dress up on those days and add a little eye liner and some gloss.
