How to make Skinny Jeans

Have you ever had some old jeans that fit so well, but they're just out of style - like bell bottoms or wide legged trousers? Or what about finding some cool looking pants at the thrift store, but they need some tailoring?

I've got a simple fix that takes less than two hours!

This project is a 2 on our D-I-Y scale.

What you'll need:

1. the pants to be tailored
2. pants that fit well...those will be the "guide" or pattern pants
3. washable marker or chalk
4. sewing scissors
5. pins
6. sewing machine
*alternate if you don't have a sewing machine - you can hand sew or use fabric glue

Check out the video tutorial:

Steps to project:

1. turn both pants inside out
2. lay the pants to be tailored flat on strong surface
3. lay the guide/pattern pants on top of the tailored pants
4. match the crotch area and pin together
5. match the outer parts of the pants and pin the seams together
6. use your marker to trace the inseam of the pattern pants to the tailor pants
7. stop just above the knee area
8. loosing sew along the line of the marked area from the inseam
9. try on pants to check fit
10. if all is well, reinforce the new inseam with a stronger stitch
11. cut off the excess pants
12. turn the right side and Hooray! You have your new skinny jeans!

What do you think? Will you try making skinny jeans?
