One of my favorite places to explore around the Atlanta area is Sweetwater Creek State Park.
This little park is close to the city and easy to get to. Be prepared for a $5/car park fee - and if the ranger isn't there, please have the integrity to drop your share off in the box. I saw so many people bypass that.
There are great scenic trails with beautiful views of the creek. Depending on the rise of the water, you can see boulder rocks
I took the RED trail, which is a very easy 2 mile hike.
