Real Life: Accept it - You are a Brand

You are a brand...you know that right?

Whether you want to be or not, these are the days that everyone should consider themselves a brand.

I remember in college when a good friend, I called him my big brother, told me about the dating game, and broke it down to me this simply: whether you want to play or not, there is a game going on.
That's when I realized that I couldn't deny it or ignore it, and it would be in my best interest to play it, and play it well.

That should be your approach to life, especially business life.
It doesn't matter if you are an entrepreneur or if you work for the man, once you recognize that you are your own entity, your entire approach to life will change.

That doesn't mean you have to build a website (although these days they can be done free and it can take 15 minutes. *see http://about.me/dayveesutton), but you definitely participate in social media.

So there is a strategy in how you portray yourself to the world, which is vastly different than in years past. Your social media will reveal if you are a family person, a world traveler, a night-owl clubber, a foodie, etc...you get the point.
Are you the "word of God" poster or send motivation tweets?
Do you engage in political twitter wars?

All of these things build your brand - the way the world views you.

And my only point in this post is not to give you strategies on how to navigate it (that is a online course of which I charge money for *wink*) -
it is just to make you aware that
You. Are. A. Brand.

  1. I've always wondered about regular people as brands and how important it was. Thanks. I look forward to more tips along the way.
