5 Fab New Year's Eve Party Themes

It's almost time to ring in 2017 y'all! What better way to begin a new year than hosting an evening of fun for friends and loved ones?

People often look forward to a new year as a fresh start - time to make changes, try new things, maybe even be a bit more adventurous. It is in that vein that I have not only culled some fab (and some non-traditional!) ideas for you for ringing in the new year, but I have also chosen to collaborate on this article with celebrated author/journalist Evan J. Peterson, who is forever coming up with creative ideas.

Here, our recipes for the perfect party:

Midwinter Lights:

Cultures around the world celebrate midwinter festivals marking the rebirth of light close to the solstice. Christmas, Chanukah, and Yule all use the symbolism of light in winter to remind us that spring will come again.

We suggest:
Candles, chrome and mirrored decor (reflective plates, disco balls, etc.), evergreen branches and wreaths, yule logs, tea lights in glass globes, foods served on fire (think baked alaska, flaming sambuca, etc.), mulled wine/spiced cider. Invite guests to show up in shades of red, shiny materials, and lots of gold and silver.

Retro-Resolutions:

Celebrate your accomplishments from the previous year as though each was a resolution you made on January 1st. Pair this with a nostalgia theme to enjoy looking back while you look forward to new beginnings.

What you'll want on hand:
Pads and pens for guests to write down their year's accomplishments, a guest book to sign (and write one met goal), decor that includes clocks and other time pieces, old photos and disposable cameras. Stick with the "look back" theme by serving aged cheeses and vintage wines. Suggest that guests wear black and white or tones of sepia to inspire nostalgia.

All that Glitters:

We recommend: Sparkling wine, glitter laden tables, sparkly cupcakes, gold confetti, and sequined everything!
Invite your guests to show up dripping in bling, and hold a contest for the most outrageous, over-the-top look.

Winter White:

White-themed parties have become very popular in the past few years. If you're attracted to all things clean, sleek and classic, this is the theme for you!

Our ideas: White wine, vanilla desserts, alfredo pastas, stark white decor and table settings. Add in a bit of silver and choose one accent color (we like teal), and have guests arrive decked head to toe in as much white as they can.

The Nightmare After Christmas:

If Jack Skellington is more your style, try this darkly glamorous theme to ring in the new year. From gorgeous Gothic vamps to ghostly whimsy, you can make this theme smoldering or semi-sweet.

Vamp it up with:
Black and burgundy, velvets, satins, gargoyles, deep red wines, black-iced cakes and cookies, lots of sinful dark chocolate and pumpkin pie. Dare guests to arrive in Victorian or Addams Family chic!
