First look at this cherry red drop-top Mazda MX-5 Miata RF

On a recent road trip to Jackson County, North Carolina I got to drive the brand new, 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF.

Fun fact: the Miata has been around since 1989 and is the best selling convertible of all time!

I've never driven a drop-top convertible so I was excited for the ride.

I admit, I was nervous to drive it at first. It was so low to the ground and within the first 20-minutes of having it, a woman in a parking lot nearly backed into me!

But, as I continued the ride, I became more comfortable because of all of the standard i-ACTIVSENSE safety features:
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Lane Departure Warning System
- High Beam Control
- Adaptive Front Lighting System
- Rain-sensing wipers

This is the first model of the Miata that Mazda has produce with a retractable fastback (RF). Here's the differences vs soft Top:
- Power folding hardtop that can open or close in just 13 seconds
- Roof open/close power switch
- 4.6 inch full-color TFT display
- The MX-5 RF Launch Edition: A 1,000-unit trim level exclusively for the U.S.

The was super fun to drive and this model came with sports mode - meaning, a quicker take off when you put your foot on the gas. Which by the time I had to leave the mountains, I was much more comfortable driving down the winding roads.

Check out my video review:

Vehicle was given by Mazda for a conversation written by me. The opinions and text are all mine.
