The Waiting Game: The Women's Champ

Day 18

...spent the morning running errands, then headed to CNN for some prep-work, radio call-ins, and editing...
Around 2pm, I met up with my camera guy and headed off to Wimbledon.
We met Don Riddell at Gate 16, then decided to go to Wimbledon Village to watch the rest of the Women's final matchup between Justine Henin-Hardine and Amélie Mauresmo.
We had to waste so much time (from 2:45 to after 6pm), then headed back to the media gate. Then we received notice that we'll get our chance to speak with the winner around 7:30pm. (It's complicated, but basically the networks who own the rights to the coverage get priority. Then all the rest can wait, and wait, and wait for our chance to speak with the days winner. That's what its been like for me the entire tournament.)
Finally, about a quarter to 8pm, we had our chance to speak with Amélie Mauresmo, who won the last two sets to get her very first Wimbledon victory. IT'S A GREAT STORY.
