Historic downtown Sylva, NC, is home to the Jackson County Ale Trail. There's a mile-long (walkable) trail with local three micro-breweries, each offering a unique experience.

Innovation Brewing is a seven-barrel brewhouse that features 32 beers on tap. Now in its fourth year, this micro-brewery continues to uphold its name by offering seasonal and experimental beers with unique flavors like beets and cilantro. But, the brewhouse also keeps a few mainstays on the menu year-round.

Preparing a flight of beer

My personal favorite part of this stop on the tour was the presentation of a flight of beer. You choose five different beers, and the flight is presented to you on an actual slice of wood! It gives off such laid-back, rustic vibes. And the variety of colors from the beers is a perfect touch for an Insta-worthy pic!

Sneak E Squirrel offers beer prepared in very unique ways, including a French press method allowing guests to customize their beers. Sneak E Squirrel’s owner, John Duncan, named the brewery after his online gaming handle. The building was an old car dealership and service garage, which he transformed into a spacious family-friendly brewery and restaurant. This is one of the few breweries that serves food.

The 13 beers on tap are well-balanced classics. The food, on the other hand, is a bit more extreme. The restaurant specializes in game meat, but also offers traditional finger foods.
