3 things to see at the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai

National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai, Hawaii is one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. The gardens were created to discover, rescue and study the world's tropical plants. When you take a visit, you can learn all about what the botanists and scientists have learned.

Here are three things I learned on a recent visit:

1. The gardens were privately owned until donated to the government in 1964.

2. A famous scene from Jurassic Park was filmed there.

3. They are home to the Breadfruit Institute, which can save the world from hunger.

What Is Breadfruit?
Breadfruit is an attractive long-lived tropical tree that yields an abundance of a nutritious, starchy fruit for decades.

Food and Other Uses

The Fruit can be cooked and eaten at all stages of growth, from small and immature, when it is similar to artichoke hearts, to starchy mature, to ripe when it is soft and sweet.

Now, check out my tour of the gardens:
